Why Open Source?

Another way to phrase this is "Why closed source?". We avoid the "black box" of proprietary software. Why? You cannot look at the source code to see what the software does. Ever been to a restaurant where the chef never lets anyone in the kitchen? Why would you eat there? Open source does not hide it's source code from the world. You are freely available to even edit the source code to change or add functionality, if you wish.

Open source developers are able to collaborate from around the world on functionality and cross-platform operability for a multitude of software solutions for office and home environments. Need to author a PDF or DOC file, but don't have that expensive suite of proprietary tools? Want to develop a logo for your business but don't the expensive editing tool? Want to create a spreadsheet for calculating invoces? No problem. All of these problems - and many more - have open source solutions that are comprehensive, the vast majority of which are free for you to use. Yes, that is correct: free. The bonus is .... you are not beholden to an upgrade treadmill; you are not tied to a subscriptiion service

Not The Only game In town

If you are wondering why you've never seen Linux or any open-source applications advertised on TV or Radio, or in print, the answer is simple: there is no advertising agency willing to spend time and money to "sell" a product available for free. There is no budget for doing so, let alone a profit to be had. Yes, it really is this simple.

Open source applications are available for every common type of enterprise software -- from databases, application servers and Web servers (HTTP, DNS, FTP, SSH, mail, et al), to Web browsers and office applications, to network monitoring software and security software. In fact, Linux is built from the ground up as a multi-user environment (read: server).

We Can Leverage Open Source To Your Advantage

We can set up your business with a single server that will act as your web presence, and your mail server - either in your office or in "the cloud". Never again worry about Google harvesting your email contacts: you will control things on that score.

We can set up your desktops to run great, user-friendly open source operating systems. Increased security and productivity for your employees. Secure remote access. No more will you be on the "upgrade treadmill", as the thousands of developers in the open source community are faster, better, and open about how the Linux variants are supported. For user desktop operations, we recommend Ubuntu. Ubuntu offers log term support for five years on each new release. That means no headaches for you, or your employees. Why not give us an RFP for bringing your office out of the dark ages?

For server applications, we recommend the Fedora Core distribution of Linux. It offers outstanding stability, security, and support.

Oh, and one last thing ...

These operating systems and applications are available to you whether you use our services or not. We just think people should know there are alternatives to the closed box approach.
